8 Steps to Smelling like *That* Girl

Something I have always admired about “it-girls” is that they smell so good. Whether it’s perfume, hair, or just in general, a true it-girl always leaves a lovely lingering scent. I have recently been attempting to curate my own version of this, and while it will always be a work in progress,

Shower Routine:

1. Base Layer

This is the most important step. Buy a plain, unscented, antibacterial bar soap. I literally just buy this Dove one. Get a soap dish in your shower, and simply always start your shower with a bar soap scrub all over. I also highly recommend a silicone scrubber for all this, as they are way easier to clean than loofahs or similar products.

2. Body Scrub

Once per week, you should use an exfoliating body scrub and silicone scrubber to remove any excess dead skin. It might be gross, but we all have it. Gotta do what you gotta do.

3. Scented Foaming Body Wash

I have been loving using foaming body wash lately because, in my opinion, it tends to feel more moisturizing. I’ve been hooked on this Method one, but so many brands have the foaming options.

Post Shower:

4. Body Oil

I recently discovered body oil, and let me tell you, it’s life changing. I always feel like my skin is glowy and hydrated, and it helps lock in all that moisture right away.

5. Lotion

This is a given (or at least I hope it is). Every person is different, but this EOS lotion genuinely makes you smell like a fairy princess.

6. Body/Hair Spray

One of my favorite things about my body care routine is that I have matching body wash and body spray. Layering different scents is great, but there is something fun about matching some of your products together.

Perfume

7. Signature Scent

Your signature scent doesn’t have to be the same every time. I like to switch it up, but I do always have a large bottle of Marc Jacobs Daisy on hand at all times. This is the same signature scent that you should be spraying on those sweaters you don’t wash as often, or your jeans and jackets that you rotate in often.

8. Another Layer

I also carry a variety of random perfumes that I like to rotate in and out, either in combination with my daily, or as a standalone. I think this allows for more variety in your scent profile — certain occasions require certain energy that the right perfume can provide.

With the combination of these eight steps, I get more compliments than ever on smelling nice, and I can actually feel it lasting days after.
